Educational Approach: Literature Based

Literature based programs can provide several advantages over traditional textbooks

• They are more engaging. Rather than read a single paragraph on an historical event, students can read a short story or book that helps them vicariously live the events themselves.
• They can accomplish multiple purposes at once (build vocabulary, explore a variety of writing styles, learn about different cultures, etc.)
• They help students learn how to think rather than tell them what to think.
• Older books can provide modeling and reinforcement to assist in character training.
• Books are more accessible to parents than textbooks and encourage parental involvement.
